Mona has been dancing since the age of 10. The Art of Dance has taken her on a Journey.
Wanting to bring the culture and Polynesian dance to Carson City, Mona and Joreen decided to become business partners. Officially opening the doors of Kaulana Na Pua O Hula in March of 2006.
Mona has a wonderful background of dance in ballet and jazz, from Charlotte Soukup of Carson City, from the Bekefi School of Dance. She danced for 11 years with Charlotte consistently. Charlotte is now retired, she danced until the age of 77. Mona has also taken tap for 2 years from the well known, Gina Davis (Kaski); who currently teaches and owns the establishment of Western Nevada Performing Arts Center.
Mona, being a Pacific Islander, wanted to explore her roots of Polynesian dancing. (She is originally from the Island of Guam, but has lived here in Carson City for many years). She ventured into the Art of Hula 2 years ago and has learned to perpetuate the culture. She still has much to learn, but grow contiuously with weekly classes.
She currently teaches at the halau of Kaulana Na Pua O Hula. She has a great passion for children, which lets her focus on the pepe and keiki (tiny tots and small children) classes. She believes the Art of Hula teaches one's self, history and culture, discipline, structure and self confidence.
Dancing for the community is one of Mona's favorite things to do. Giving of ones's time and self is very important to Mona and the halau.
