Hello and Aloha
My name is Joslyn Kuliana Bates. I have been dancing and
learning the Hula for the last 3 years. I was named after one
of my pure Hawaiian generation's Great Grandmother. I
understand she was a Hawaiian Witch Doctor. My mom has
taught me throughout the years about Hula. I have been
teaching Keiki's (children) since 2006. I am teaching an
intermediate Keiki class which one of them has been with me
since I first started teaching. I help instruct all classes when
necessary and actually dance in one of the classes for
fundamental strenghtening. I love to perform and especially
love to solo. I had some of
my greatest times dancing with
my "Popo-grandma" at both practices and shows. She was
Always fun to be around and loved to dance the hula
together. I feel that Hula is a great way to exercise and also
build self-esteem. I have learned that "Confidence in Young Ladies"
taught
at an early age means "Stronger Women" later in life!
My hopes are to continue to help teach the hula and perpetuate the Hawaiian
Culture with my mom. I will graduate this year and will be moving onto College
in the summer. I am running for Miss Carson City 2008 in hopes of winning
some scholarship money for schooling. With up coming school events and grown
up stuff, I am hoping to be able to continue to teach once a week and if
not; I will be like my dad and be a solid supporter of the business and my
mom.
Mahalo,
Kuliana
