MFC 7840W Review
Being from the "old school", purchasing the 7840W was a big decision. I was extremely skeptical that a printer, copier, scanner, and fax machine could perform well separately all jammed in to one compartment. In all the offices I had worked in, all the functions were performed in individual units. Boy oh boy, with the Brother 7840W, I was in for a pleasant surprise.
First and foremost, this is a VERY compact unit. The fact that I can set it virtually anywhere is a huge plus for my small home office. Yet, despite being compact, it is very sturdily constructed, and doesn't seem cheap. It weighs just south of 25 lbs, and has a relatively small footprint.
I always seem to be in a hurry, so the fact that it warms up so quickly is a real plus. I am the impatient type, so with this machine I won't be chomping on the bit. They say it warms up in under 30 seconds, but I haven't timed it.
The wireless function is really very cool, and something that didn't exist in my generation. It also has wired capabilities, so that is a little extra versatility. What is very convenient is that the wireless feature is already integrated. I love that I can place it virtually anywhere, not just next to the computer.
The set up for printing was so simple that even a technically challenged person such as myself, could handle it. And the quality of the printing is excellent. It prints crisp, black text at 2400 X 600 dpi. That is definitely going to preserve my eyesight!
The cost of laser toner cartridges is high, but really rather deceptive. They hold a lot more ink than ink jet cartridges, and last longer. At any rate, the 7840W has toner saving settings, which do a good job preserving the ink. Oh, I almost forgot, the printer has 32 mb of memory, which is plenty.
In conclusion, the efficiency in my home office has really been taken to a new level with this all in one printer. I might have been skeptical at first, but I now thank my lucky stars that I was smart enough to go for the 7840W!
